Program Administrator
Karen Kinney is the Program Administrator for the Critical Care program. She works closely with the Program Director and is the first stop for residents requiring assistance. Karen has worked at the Ottawa Hospital for many years, primarily in Critical Care and can be counted on to work out solutions to most situations.
Program Coordinator

Corporate Clinical Coordinator
Charlotte Dafoe is the Corporate Clinical Coordinator for the Department of Critical Care. Charlotte supports the department and the medical staff and can always be counted on to lend a hand. Charlotte’s office is located at the Civic Campus.
ICU Nursing Staff
The ICU Nursing staff form the backbone of the ICU. They are an essential and vital component in providing the highest standard of patient care offered by the Ottawa Hospital Department of Critical Care Medicine. Clinical Nurse Manager
Both ICU's at the Civic and General Campuses have dedicated Clinical Nurse Managers, Yvonne Wilson at the Civic Campus, and Nancy McDonald at the General Campus. The Clinical Nurse Managers are responsible for the day-to-day running of the Intensive Care Units. They are responsible for ensuring that policies and procedures in the ICU are followed. They are directly responsible for the nursing care given to all patients in the ICU. They collaborate with the Medical Director and attending staff on a variety of issues.
Clinical Coordinator
The ICU’s at the Civic and General Campuses have Clinical Coordinators who work with the Clinical Nurse Managers to facilitate patient flow and clinical issues. Janet Moore-Holmes is the Clinical Coordinator for the General Campus and Catherine Youngson is the Clinical Coordinator at the Civic Campus.
Care Facilitator
There is a Care Facilitator on every shift. Their responsibility is to coordinate ICU activities such as multidisciplinary rounds, transport, admission and discharge of patients as well as matching patient needs with the availability of nurses.
Clinical Nurse Educators
There are two Clinical Nurse Educators at each campus who are responsible for the orientation and ongoing education of nursing staff in the ICU. The educator is an expert resource in many clinical and technical aspects of ICU care.
Research Coordinators
There are several Research Coordinators at both campuses responsible for recruitment of patients to the various research studies (See ICU Research page) that are being conducted at any one time. They make every effort to inform the residents and ICU staff of the ongoing research and should be consulted whenever a patient is felt to meet the criteria provided for entry into a study.
Respiratory Therapists
A team of Respiratory Therapists is available around the clock in each ICU. They not only provide assistance in ventilator care, but are a valuable resource for residents unfamiliar with basic aspects of mechanical ventilation. They are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team.
Multidisciplinary Team
The ICU's at both campuses benefit by the full-time presence of Clinical Pharmacists, Social Workers, Physiotherapists and Dieticians in the ICU. They are active participants and a key resource of information in Clinical rounds. Other members of the team include Speech Therapists and Pastoral Care.
ACC/WARD Clerks
The Clerks provide clerical support and can assist with a multitude of services. These include assisting with organization of consultations, booking diagnostic tests and organizing and maintaining the patient record.
